Chandan Seva at ISKCON NAIROBI

Cooling the Lord with Devotion

During the intense summer heat, devotees celebrate Chandan Yatra, a festival of love where the Deities are covered in cooling sandalwood paste (Chandan). This ancient tradition commemorates the Lord's desire to provide relief to His devotees and the reciprocal desire of devotees to keep the Lord cool and comfortable.

At ISKCON Nairobi, this 21-day festival involves grinding fresh sandalwood sticks into a smooth paste, mixed with camphor and rose water. This paste is then artistically applied to the entire form of the Lord, transforming the altar into a fragrant, cooling sanctuary.

Participating in Chandan Seva is a unique opportunity to serve the Lord personally. The scent of sandalwood represents the fragrance of pure devotion, and its cooling property represents the peace that Krishna consciousness brings to a restless mind.

By sponsoring the sandalwood or the festivities, you directly contribute to one of the most visually stunning and aromatically pleasing festivals of the year, ensuring the Lord is beautifully adorned and cared for during the peak of summer.
