Ratha Yatra at ISKCON NAIROBI

The Festival of Chariots

Ratha Yatra is one of the world's oldest and grandest festivals. It celebrates Lord Jagannath’s (the Lord of the Universe) journey from His temple to the countryside to share His mercy with all living beings. This is the only time the Deities come out of the temple to meet those who cannot enter.

At ISKCON Nairobi, the Ratha Yatra is a major cultural event that brings together thousands of people from all walks of life. The grand wooden chariot is pulled through the streets of Nairobi accompanied by vibrant kirtans, dancing, and the distribution of sanctified food (Prasadam).

It is said that anyone who pulls the ropes of the chariot or even catches a glimpse of Lord Jagannath on His chariot is blessed with spiritual liberation. This festival is a beautiful display of unity, devotion, and joy in the heart of Kenya.
